Tried Kurume Ramen “Maruhachi” in Tachiarai!|Solo Hakata Trip in My 30s

I visited Kurume ramen shop “Maruhachi” during a solo trip to Fukuoka!

It is a popular restaurant where you can enjoy Kurume’s local speciality, tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen.

It is a classic combination of rich tonkotsu broth and thin noodles, but it tastes a bit richer than Hakata ramen.

It is also a great place to stop by when visiting the Tachiarai Peace Memorial Museum.

Tried Kurume Ramen “Maruhachi” in Tachiarai!

When I visited the Tachiarai Peace Memorial Museum, I also stopped by “Maruhachi”.

Here is where you can find “Maruhachi”

It is about a 2-minute walk from Tachiarai Station.

When you exit the station, turn left and walk straight.

The bright yellow signboard is your landmark.

Here is the front of the shop

The interior is more spacious than it looks from the outside.

Inside the restaurant

There is a counter and tatami seating, so it is easy to visit with children as well.

There are a few table seats as well.

Here is the menu

There are photos on the menu as well.

Takana (spicy pickled mustard greens) and kimchi are self-serve.

You can nibble on them while you wait for your order.

They are incredibly tasty!

But also incredibly spicy… You can add them to your ramen later too.

Here are the “ramen” and the “small rice” set

It looks delicious from every angle.

The noodles are straight and thin

They pick up plenty of broth with each bite.

The broth is a slightly rich tonkotsu

It is flavourful, yet not overly oily, so it still feels relatively light.

Adding chashu pork and spring onion doubles the deliciousness.

The classic combo: ramen with rice

There is no way this could be anything but amazing.

On the table there were beni-shoga (pickled red ginger), sesame seeds and pepper.

Time for a flavour change!

Something about ramen that pairs perfectly with pickled red ginger just screams “Fukuoka”.

I almost finished all the broth…

I told myself I would walk a lot afterwards!

Who I recommend this place for

  • Those who want to try Kurume ramen
  • Those planning to visit the Tachiarai Peace Memorial Museum

That is all for this post.
